The Canada Road Safety Week campaign took place from June 25th to July 3rd and during the week, South Bruce OPP paid close attention to causal factors in serious collisions on OPP patrolled highways.

These factors, referred to as the “Big 4” are impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and failing to wear a seatbelt.

During their weeklong initiative, South Bruce OPP laid 216 charges including: 178 speeding charges; 2 stunt driving charges; 2 charged for failing to wear a seatbelt; and 2 drivers were charged with impaired driving.

Also, during the week of the campaign, South Bruce OPP investigated 29 motor vehicle collisions, with no reported injuries at any of the scenes.

Although the weeklong campaign has ended, S/Sgt Ryan Olmstead, Detachment Manager, from South Bruce OPP said that, “The safety initiative has ended, but the South Bruce OPP remain committed to road safety all year long.”
