A strong turnout for a vigil at Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin to honour the 14 women killed at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.

There was also one at the Kincardine United Church Monday night.

The 14 were gunned down by a man on December 6th, 1989.

The vigils were organized by the Canadian Federation of University Women.

Spokeswoman Cheryl Kryzaniwsky says violence against woman is not just happening to one specific race or class.

Kryzaniwsky believes since pandemic restrictions were first put in place, incidents of violence against women have increased especially at home.

She says it is important for everyone to speak out against violence towards women.
